Fannish Friday...

... Or, I have an eyeball.

Went to first day of Media*West yesterday.  This is a local fan-run con [ETA with their FAQ for your info], no guests, just fans.  It's lovely.

Panels on BBC Sherlock, tiny fandoms, audio goodies (run by my boyfriend -- about podcasts, BBC Radio 4, etc.), Benedict Cumberbatch, and also the Sherlock party.

At the latter we played Cards Against Humanity, the Sherlock version.  Much hilarity and rudeness!

The hostess at the party brought me a [lavender] tumbler of water that had an eyeball in it.  Which I got to keep.

Pianist James Rhodes is a friend of Benedict's.  Today James got married.

Ben was part of his wedding party [an usher, it sounds like, despite penguins] while Stephen Fry wed the happy couple.

A week ago the lucky people who attended the BFI got to see the premiere of s3 ep1.

And something bad happened there.  I don't want you to take away "This was all bad" because our fellow fans are being supportive of the fic writer.  Because that's what fans do.

How the Sherlock fandom has been feeling as of 1-Sept-2013.  Or maybe it's been all of 2013... or during s3 filming... or since the finale of s2.  So many choices!

Ohhhh right.  Like that's gonna happen!

In all seriousness, I'm glad to be part of the SH fandom.  Met lots of great people that I'm very happy to have in my life.  Likely a good thing I didn't formally join the Tweep version until s2 aired -- less wear and tear on my family and local friends.  A shame none of them are fangirls/fanboys though!

Fandom is...

Fandom is that moment when you meet cast members from your show.

That moment when you're deeply excited for your friend... and maybe you're the only person in your house who knows why it matters so much.  Maybe there's other fans in your city or your town; maybe not.  Maybe that time I speak with you is the only time either of us has with someone who loves what we both love.

That's fandom too.  Just as this love letter to fandom is.

Fandom... a love letter.

A love letter written by a friend of mine* about fandom:  Fandom is focus.

Little Favour is the short film starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Nick Moran.

Indiegogo is where they're raising money for the indie film.  (It's a nonprofit.)  They smashed through their initial goal quickly -- huzzah, Cumbercollective!

If you want to pledge, you've got until 17-May-13, 11.59pm, Pacific Time.  They were at £65,600 last I saw.

Adam Ackland is one of the producers.  8)  If you watch his Twitter feed, he'll tell you when it's to be filmed [first week of June 2013] and where.

Dear Sherlock fandom:  I love you.  You're amazing.

I mostly meet you on Twitter, but I also meet you at cons, on blogs and other websites, and wow.

You really are amazing.  I have met some of the coolest people ever.  Thank you.

Twitter has become my water cooler.  I get to hang out there and talk to people all over.  Yes, I've been talking to people online since 1991 -- but it's still really cool to meet people who are across the ocean or even across this continent.

Thanks for many a conversation, sometimes in the dead of night... over any old thing, over something we're geeked about, or something that becomes fascinating after a few words.
