You are indeed right -- if you've thought I was bailing on this blog, I'm sorry. I was depressive during much of 2016.
Also, I was not a fan of the one-off episode (TAB) either. I still love the show BBC Sherlock, I do. Hell, I've arranged annual discussions at a local con for Sherlock fans.
Maybe we'll see a change in a couple years. Maybe not, also.
Time will tell, eh?
The entire Team SH has gotten so busy, and so popular-- which they all well deserve, and I'm over the moon for them all. 8)

(S2) Signaling.
And that was the signal!
I'd never noticed it before. Jim scares me. As well he should, he's a deeply scary man. Not human; he left humanity behind long ago, wearing his body like unwanted clothes.
Allow me to backtrack. I was rewatching a favorite fan video... it involves Reichenbach, so if any feels still bother you, you might want to skip the video itself.

Cons: media and SF.
Media*West Con and media cons: here's M-West's own history.
I've been to a few media cons. Not a lot, mind you, just a couple. Comic-Con 2007 is a media con -- and possibly Omegacon. Plus there's M-West as of this weekend. Unlike sf cons, to which I have attended oodles...
Some other time I'll talk about Omegacon 2008 (down in Birmingham, Alabama) and why it probably counted as a media/sf con.
(I'll do a little con report on M-West around month-end. Should be good -- or great! So many SH panels makes me realize they must have a large contingent of Sherlockians, huzzah.
[ETA: Or set of con reports, since I did post Fannish Friday already last weekend, out of vast enthusiasm.]
Really wish I could see oodles of you there! but M-West IS a smallish local con, sigh.)

My thoughts on His Last Vow.
S3 SPOILERS
I believe this was inspired by a post at SherlockCares. It may have been an email, however. I know the quote isn't mine.

Easter candy -- chocolate, honest!
There is a 6-foot sculpture in chocolate of Benedict, per Good Housekeeping. I am not making this up! Apparently it isn't an April Fools Day joke either...
Methinks someone thought they could outdo Pei's Cumbercupcakes. Of course not.

TGG and that painting.
Can we just take a moment to consider how LONG it took Dear Jim to plan The Great Game?
Painting an oil painting takes time. Imitating a master -- in such a way to successfully complete a forged painting -- takes time too. A considerable amount. The little old man mentioned in the show had to adjust his style to properly imitate what he meant to paint. He'd make some sample paintings. It wouldn't be something that took a few days.
Doing a successful forgery is complicated. For the purposes of the show, they did some handwaving over how experts would be testing a painting, researching it, comparing it to past paintings, etc.
(Okay, let's be honest, they did a LOT of handwaves. Realistically any specialist would have looked at the artist, his life, and what he was reputed to paint, and they'd've known long before SH that it was a fake.)
Let alone the other things, like the bribes. Sure, Jim probably invested a lot of bribes. He couldn't bribe everyone. But he could bribe enough people for a short-term scam to work out. Sort of.

He's got a new box.
Major SPOILERS for s3.
For that to make sense, you need to read this amazing and insightful essay about Sherlock, John, and s3 by acafanmom. Brilliant.
Done that? Okay.

Counterbatch, cosplay, deductions...
Much to John's chagrin, turns out @AStudyInPunk spent those 2 yrs cosplaying at anime cons.

No spoilers here, in a bitty 221B. Lovely!

What is Lestrade's division?
Tall people -- short friends. 8) A gif set of Mycroft.

Spec on s3...
Okay. Probable s3 spoilers and very likely feels or trauma.
Really.
I've been pondering ["Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?"] and I have some dark thoughts about s3 finale.

Unreliable narrators: s2e3.
So I've been thinking about Reichenbach... and unreliable narrators.
If you haven't seen both seasons of Sherlock, don't read this, I pray you. If you're jonesing because of season 3 in production, you may be interested. 8)

London: Sue Vertue's s3 request.
Sue Vertue sent out this request. It's about Sherlock s3 filming in London.
I think it's a totally valid request. I wish people would pass it along AND honor it.
Think about it this way: You're working. You need to focus. Every time you get distracted, EVERYTHING has to be done over. It takes hours and hours and even more hours. It's not just you, but all the people working with you.
This applies to cast and crew alike.
Yes, filming is exciting. I get that. I really do. When I get distracted when I'm working, no one gets hurt. I may get angry or lose track, but that's all that happens.
With filming, someone could mess up a stunt -- and get hurt. PLEASE think about that. You don't want Benedict or Martin or anyone else hurt, do you?
Imagine how you'd feel if you had to put in extra hours at work and it was freezing outside. And you couldn't go indoors because being outdoors was your workplace.
Martin got hurt during filming s1; Benedict got flu and then pneumonia.
Do you work outside? Do you have to do the same thing over and over?
And one thing you should remember: is that certain news organizations aren't going to listen. [They aren't listening now.] If you really want pictures, look for theirs. I want to see our gang as much as anyone, but still, I want them all to work in peace. And health.
Don't make it harder on Team Sherlock to do their job. Please. Remember, they are doing s3 for us, and we want them to keep doing our show. Be fair to them. Thanks!

The thing with fandom, the fourth wall, and the media.
GM says a lot of really important things here. Please do read it.
Her post's amazing, and I've kept a tab open there because I wanted to make it the focal point of a post about fandom and how we're perceived -- not only by others but by each other.
FYI: Part of her post's quoted after the break.

Index: My Sherlock fic.
Index of my thought experiments, which are really short fics. I should point out that I don't write yaoi and that I don't ship anyone (except maybe Molly and GL) in the show.
If you haven't seen all of 2010 and 2012 Sherlock, seasons 1 and 2, you probably don't want to read any of these: definitely spoiler territory!

Got Sherlock??
Tonight Devil's Night is coming up... and tomorrow's Halloween.
Here's your first trick, some crossover fan art. AKA what happens when you need Sherlock sitters... like you do (admit it, you know you do!).
So, since my greatest bad influence of late is Sherlock, here's some habits, bad or otherwise, that I've picked up from BBC Sherlock:
